Squeezing diagonals into a smaller square changes the feel of the search. Entries cross each other more often, share letters, and a single S can belong to several answers at once — which matters here, because so much of the ocean list begins with that letter. Nothing reads backwards, but the crowding does the work instead.

This one suits a player who already knows the theme and wants pressure without a long sitting, or a printed sheet that has to stay on a single page and still look serious. It rewards patience over speed: guessing from a first letter goes wrong here more often than on the open boards.

Work the corners early. Diagonals that start near an edge have very little room to run, so short entries tend to be pinned there.
