Word Search Puzzles to Play Online or Print

Every grid here can be solved on screen, printed for somebody else, or built from a list of words you supply. Nothing to install, no account to open.

Solving online works the way you would expect. The grid sits beside its list, you drag across a run of letters, and a word that matches stays marked while its entry is struck out. Subjects run from animals and weather through to the kitchen table, and each is published at more than one level: some grids keep every word reading rightwards or downwards, others let them slant or run backwards.

Printing is the other half of the site. A themed puzzle comes out as a plain black and white page on US Letter or A4, the word list under the grid, and a solutions page you can send through with it or hold back. That is the part activity leaders lean on: a sheet to hand round, and a spare kept by whoever runs the table. It costs nothing and asks nothing back.

When no ready-made subject fits, the maker takes your own words instead — a spelling list for the week, the names of everyone coming to a party, the vocabulary of one particular trade. Teachers, parents and anyone filling an afternoon in a residence usually arrive for that and stay for the printing.

Decide early whether the puzzle is for a screen or for paper. On paper a roomier grid leaves the pencil somewhere to work; on screen a tighter one keeps every letter in view without scrolling.
