A Christmas word search for the whole festive season, to play on screen or print for the classroom.

The list travels from the North Pole to the living room: the jolly man in red, his tiny helpers, the shiny baubles on the evergreen and the sweet treats of December. Children meet words they hear everywhere this month, and older solvers enjoy the longer entries that take more patience to spot.

Pick from three levels (easy, medium, hard) and grids from 8×8 up to 20×20. The easy level keeps every word running left to right or top to bottom; the hard one adds diagonals and backwards words.

The words in this theme

With the French translation, or a short definition: handy for French immersion or a bilingual class.

Suggested school level

Grades 1-4 (ages 6-10): easy 8×8 or 10×10; grades 5-6 move to medium; older students try hard.

Classroom activity idea

Before handing out the grids, ask students to list their own seasonal traditions, then compare them with the words in the puzzle. Print several different grids so each team has its own, and finish by having every student write a sentence using one word they found.

Classroom use is allowed: print as many copies as your students need, free of charge, with no sign-up.

Start with the longest entries: their length makes them easy to spot, and once circled they shrink the search for everything else. Remember that a word made of two parts is written as one string, with no space or hyphen.
