From deep trenches to the water's edge, these grids dive into the sea with its creatures, its shores and the vocabulary of sailors.

The word list blends marine animals, coastal scenery and seafaring gear. You will spot familiar names from the aquarium, and some rarer ones that make the page a handy warm-up before a science unit on marine life.

Each ocean word search page covers three levels, easy, medium and hard, and sizes from 8×8 to 20×20. Easy keeps words running left to right or top to bottom, medium adds diagonals, and hard opens all eight directions with backwards words. Every grid is generated and then checked automatically by software, with each word placed exactly once.

With the French translation, or a short definition: handy for French immersion or a bilingual class.

Suggested school level

Grades 3-7 (ages 8-12): medium 12×12 or 15×15; grades 8 and up try hard at 20×20.

Classroom activity idea

After a reading about the world's seas, have each team pick five words and write a one-sentence explanation of each to read aloud. Print different grids for the class (1, 5, 10 or 30 copies) so every team hunts for words the others already know. Use the answer key to confirm results together.

Classroom use is allowed: print as many copies as your students need, free of charge, with no sign-up.

Long, rare names such as those ending in -pus or -fish stand out from their first letters, so look for them early and cross them off the list before tackling the short ones.
