From clear skies to snowstorms, these grids gather the words used to describe the weather outside.

The vocabulary mixes everyday phenomena, extreme events and forecast jargon. Students will recognise terms they hear on the morning radio, plus measurement words and science ideas that prepare them to read a real forecast.

This weather word search has three levels, easy, medium and hard, with sizes from 8×8 to 20×20. Easy is enough for a first try, with words running right or down. Medium adds diagonals, and hard allows all eight directions, backwards included. Every grid is generated and then checked automatically by software, and each word appears exactly once.

With the French translation, or a short definition: handy for French immersion or a bilingual class.

Suggested school level

Grades 3-6 (ages 8-12): start with easy 10×10, move to medium once students are comfortable.

Classroom activity idea

For a week, the class logs each morning's weather, then finds in the grid the words that match its records. Each student writes a one-sentence forecast using two words found. Print different grids (1, 5, 10 or 30 copies) and use the answer key to check.

Classroom use is allowed: print as many copies as your students need, free of charge, with no sign-up.

Long entries such as measurement terms are easy to spot from their first letters, so hunt for them before moving on to the short ones.
