Barnyard animals, buildings, crops and the daily jobs of the farmhand all turn up in these printable grids.
The words describe a traditional farm rather than a technical farming glossary: the animals in the yard, the buildings that shelter them, the land around and the rhythm of the seasons. Nothing requires special knowledge, so city kids pick up words the countryside rarely teaches them.
The page holds three levels, easy, medium and hard, with sizes from 8×8 to 20×20. The easy farm word search at 8×8 is a gentle first contact, since words only run to the right or downwards. Medium adds diagonals, and hard allows all eight directions, backwards included. Every grid is generated and then checked automatically by software, and each word appears exactly once.

Classroom activity idea
After a visit to a farm or a sugar shack, each student finds five words seen during the trip and sorts them into three columns: animals, buildings, crops. Print different grids for the whole group (1, 5, 10 or 30 copies). The answer key speeds up checking as a class.
Classroom use is allowed: print as many copies as your students need, free of charge, with no sign-up.
Begin with the longest entries, like tractor: it is unlikely to hide by accident, and finding it quickly gives you a landmark for the rest.
