Packing the diagonal directions into a narrow square pushes the letters together. Entries share squares, filler is scarce, and a long name such as wrestling or gymnastics may stretch from one corner almost to the opposite one with nothing to spare. The grid looks busy from the first glance, and that density is the point of the size.

It suits a player who finds the standard sheet a little slow, and anyone who wants a real search inside a small printed area. The rules are unchanged from the wider medium grids: slants in both directions are allowed, but every word is still spelled forwards, so you never have to read anything in reverse.

Trace the two long corner-to-corner lines before anything else. On a compact board they carry most of the diagonal entries, and clearing them thins the grid quickly.
